2025 EngFlow Global Summit - Five Takeaways¶
Once again, the EngFlow team gathered for our annual Global Summit—convening this time in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria. This year’s summit was a milestone event—bringing the team together from around the world to celebrate five years of EngFlow. We also toasted to ten years of Bazel (thanks to our CTO Ulf Adams, our engineers, and the many others who have contributed so much to the community over the last decade). In keeping with the anniversary theme, here are five takeaways from the summit to give you a glimpse into our time together:
1. Transformation happens quickly. Many of us were surprised to encounter wintry weather in late March, but before we could blink, Spring and sunshine arrived—a welcome change for our group. The rapid transformation of the Austrian landscape reminded us of the fast-paced evolution we experience at EngFlow. Since our last summit in April of 2024, we’ve grown to nearly 50 EngFlowers across Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and Operations. With this growth, we’ve achieved meaningful results in development speed and cost efficiency for thousands of engineers. We hope to continue to transform and improve the Developer Experience for many years to come.
2. Creativity permeates our culture. In preparing summit content, we looked to Mozart for inspiration (after all, we were gathering in his birthplace). As it turns out, the creative drive and array of artistic talents within our team was truly something to behold. Indeed, a local tour guide suspected our CEO, Helen Altshuler, to be a famous painter! Many of our employees are skilled musicians, which they demonstrated during an EngFlow favorite pastime, karaoke. While these passions stem from a personal place, EngFlowers seamlessly apply their collective, creative mindset to the many technical and business challenges we face. And to finally get our fill of Mozart, we concluded the summit with an enchanting classical concert atop the ancient Fortress Hohensalzburg.
3. In-person time is special. This summit was our fifth company-wide, global event since EngFlow’s founding (previous locations include Barcelona, Belfast, Madeira and Reykjavik). We’ve come a long way from our early summit days—planning small, scrappy meetings amidst a sea of COVID restrictions—to pulling off larger-scale events for our growing business. In gathering employees together from thirteen countries, our group is like a mosaic of accents, dialects, stories, and customs, which all contribute to the richness of our team. Although it’s challenging to meet as frequently as we’d like, the level of engagement seen in our team when we meet face-to-face (with customers or each other) is admirable. And while we haven’t overcome all of the challenges and complexities of a fully remote workforce, these in-person experiences help to energize and inspire our team to continue our mission of keeping engineers in flow.
4. We stay true to our values. EngFlowers embodied our core values — LEAP (Loyalty, Excellence, Adventure, Perseverance) —in myriad ways during our time together. Our team frequently demonstrated loyalty in the way we showed up for each other and our customers. We heard examples of excellence during a customer “day in the life” exercise, which showed how EngFlow vastly improved performance for his team at one of the most innovative software companies around. On the last night together, our adventure-seeking team took the road less traveled by hiking up Salzburg’s fortress, wandering around a bit lost, out of breath, and late for dinner, but thrilled nonetheless to take in the views and enjoy the journey. Finally, we persevered through a week of jetlag, hail, snow, and jam-packed days to have a productive, fun, and meaningful summit. And to top it off, a group of EngFlowers continued on the next week with a build meetup, customer visits, and more!
5. We remain focused on our priorities. In addition to our four values, three key priorities guide EngFlow’s high-level strategy: Happy Team, Happy Customers, and More Happy Customers. “Happy Team” remains fundamental to our business, and is a primary driver in organizing a global summit each year. We leave these summits as a more cohesive unit, better equipped to fulfill our goal of “Happy Customers.” In terms of “More Happy Customers,” we focused on growth opportunities for EngFlow throughout the week, and also made sure to celebrate our recent expansion into the CMake space.
We are already looking forward to the next Global Summit, and hope you will follow along to see how these five takeaways shape EngFlow’s exciting evolution. Want to join us on this adventure?
